2006 Chevy Trailblazer ignition switch replacement, easy and simple

Replacing the ignition switch is simple. Should take about 30-45 min tops. Use a 5/16 wrench to remove negative battery cable. Use SMALL flat screwdriver to remove 2 plastic plugs from front of lower panel. Use 7mm socket to remove screws from front, and bottom of lower panel (4 screws total) . Then move to black cover UNDER THE DASH. Use 7mm socket to remove screws at each end (2 screws) , then gently pull down from the middle (there is a plastic latch holding directly in the center). Firmly grasp the tilt lever, and tug straight out, to remove. Separate the lower steering column cover by gently tugging down just behind the steering wheel. Locate ignition switch, pull down and out of housing. Unplug harness. Check position of wheel on top of new switch against the old switch. BE SURE TO MARK WHEEL ATOP OF THE OLD SWITCH, so it can be used as a reference. Set new wheel to same position as old switch. Reinstall harness, then reinstall switch fully back into housing. (If battery is not disconnected prior to reinstalling harness, the switch will not insert due to the security pin just under the key cylinder, being engaged upon plugging in the harness) Try key for function (battery may need to be temporarily reconnected). If key doesn't function as before (off-accessory-run- start) then remove switch and readjust wheel on top of switch. Once key function is normal, reassemble in reverse order as above. Enjoy.
