GO AROUND! and landing into a new airfield

Took my brother Paul (also an NPPL holder)up for a spin. It was our 1st time flying into Hilltop airfield, I had elected a long final into 31 with a 4kt tailwind. I spotted the runway late and tried to slip the c42 down. Rather than wrestle it to the tarmac, I did an early go-around and landed on 13 into wind instead. In hindsight with a new airfield, I should have opted for a standard overhead join and checked out the sock and got my bearings. As always, lessons learned. Had a lovey cuppa tea and chatted with Micheal, the airfield owner. It was a fantastic place.I will be back.
