Travel to the Philippines

Reaching remote field sites can be quite an undertaking, as Dr. Heaney reveals in his description of the team's lengthy and complicated journey to Mt. Pulag National Park. This is the first installment in a five-part series of video reports documenting The Field Museum's 2008 expedition to Luzon Island. As Head of The Field Museum's Division of Mammals and Director of the Philippine Mammal Project, Dr. Heaney and his international team of U.S. and Filipino zoologists study the islands' extraordinary biodiversity. Their research not only clarifies the relationship between evolution and environment, but also helps to determine how to most effectively conserve the unique ecology of the Philippines—one of the most severely deforested tropical countries in the world.
