We are about to enter a new Golden Age: The age of the platform. But what are the different kinds of platforms? What makes them similar or unique? How can we introduce them effectively and start delivering stories into production quickly and safely, to serve all of our organisation's communities? As we enter a new Golden Age of the platform, this talk will explore the state of platform engineering as a discipline today. We'll cover the different kinds of platforms we see out in the wild, from Internal Developer Platforms to data/MLOps platforms. We’ll discuss the difficulties in introducing them and how can we overcome them to ultimately better serve the needs of our communities that use our platforms, and also the best interests of our organization.
