From the morning watch until night; from the morning watch until night, let Israel hope in the Lord.[SAAS] Λάμψον ὁ τοῦ Κυρίου Σταυρός, τὰς φεγγοβόλους ἀστραπάς σου τῆς χάριτος, καρδίας τῶν σὲ τιμώντων καὶ θεολήπτῳ στοργῇ, περιπτυσσομένων κοσμοπόθητε· δι' οὗ τῶν δακρύων, ἐξηφανίσθη κατήφεια, καὶ τοῦ θανάτου, τῶν παγίδων ἐῤῥύσθημεν, καὶ πρὸς ἄληκτον, εὐφροσύνην μετήλθομεν· δεῖξον τῆς ὡραιότητος τῆς σῆς τὴν εὐπρέπειαν, τὰς ἀντιδόσεις παρέχων τῆς ἐγκρατείας τοῖς δούλοις σου, πιστῶς αἰτουμένοις, σὴν πλουσίαν προστασίαν, καὶ μέγα ἔλεος. Longed for worldwide, O Cross of the Lord, * brilliantly shine the lightning bolts of your grace divine * in hearts of believers * who with true faith honor you * and with God-inspired love * venerate you. * Through you have the bitter tears and the sorrow now disappeared; * we have been rescued from the traps and the snares of death, * and we have gone over to unending happiness. * Show us the splendid majesty of your holy comeliness, * on us your servants bestowing the right rewards of our abstinence. * With faith we are praying * to receive your rich protection and great mercy.[SD] Ὅτι παρὰ τῷ Κυρίῳ τὸ ἔλεος καὶ πολλὴ παρ' αὐτῷ λύτρωσις, καὶ αὐτὸς λυτρώσεται τὸν Ἰσραὴλ ἐκ πασῶν τῶν ἀνομιῶν αὐτοῦ. For with the Lord there is mercy, and with Him is abundant redemption; and He shall redeem Israel from all his transgressions.[SAAS] Χαίροις ὁ ζωηφόρος Σταυρός, τῆς Ἐκκλησίας ὁ ὡραῖος παράδεισος, τὸ ξύλον τῆς ἀφθαρσίας τὸ ἐξανθῆσαν ἡμῖν, αἰωνίου δόξης τὴν ἀπόλαυσιν, δι' οὗ τῶν δαιμόνων ἀποδιώκονται φάλαγγες, καὶ τῶν Ἀγγέλων συνευφραίνονται τάγματα, καὶ συστήματα τῶν πιστῶν ἑορτάζουσιν, ὅπλον ἀκαταγώνιστον, κραταίωμα ἄῤῥηκτον, τῶν Βασιλέων τὸ νῖκος, τῶν Ἱερέων τὸ καύχημα, Χριστοῦ νῦν τὰ πάθη, καὶ ἡμῖν δίδου προφθάσαι, καὶ τὴν Ἀνάστασιν. Rejoice, life-bearing Cross of the Lord, * you are the Church's comely Garden of Paradise, * the tree of incorruption, * which has produced fruit for us, * which is the eternal glory we receive. * Through you the arrays and hosts of the demons are kept away; through you the armies of the Angels rejoice with us, * as we celebrate with believers throughout the world. * Weapon invincible to all, * unbreakable battlement, * you are the boast of the clergy, you are the triumph of Emperors. * We pray you will grant us * to arrive at Christ's Passion and Resurrection.[SD] Αἰνεῖτε τὸν Κύριον, πάντα τὰ ἔθνη, ἐπαινέσατε αὐτόν, πάντες οἱ λαοί. Praise the Lord, all you Gentiles; praise Him, all you peoples.[SAAS] Χαίροις ὁ ζωηφόρος Σταυρός, τῆς εὐσεβείας τὸ ἀήττητον τρόπαιον, ἡ θύρα τοῦ Παραδείσου, ὁ τῶν πιστῶν στηριγμός, τὸ τῆς Ἐκκλησίας περιτείχισμα, δι' οὗ ἐξηφάνισται, ἡ ἀρὰ καὶ κατήργηται, καὶ κατεπόθη τοῦ θανάτου ἡ δύναμις, καὶ ὑψώθημεν ἀπὸ γῆς πρὸς οὐράνια, ὅπλον ἀκαταμάχητον, δαιμόνων ἀντίπαλε, δόξα Μαρτύρων Ὁσίων, ὡς ἀληθῶς ἐγκαλλώπισμα, λιμὴν σωτηρίας, ὁ δωρούμενος τῷ κόσμῳ τὸ μέγα ἔλεος. Rejoice, life-bearing Cross of the Lord, * of true religion the invincible monument, * the door to the blessed Garden, * support for those who believe, * and the Church's wall of defense all around. * Corruption has vanished and is abolished because of you. * Through you the power that was death's has been swallowed up, * and from earth have we been exalted to the heavens' heights; * panoply unassailable, * opponent of demons all, * the Martyrs' glory that truly adorns devoutest ascetic saints; * the port of salvation, * O all-precious Cross, bestowing great mercy on the world.[SD] Ὅτι ἐκραταιώθη τὸ ἔλεος αὐτοῦ ἐφ' ἡμᾶς, καὶ ἡ ἀλήθεια τοῦ Κυρίου μένει εἰς τὸν αἰῶνα. For His mercy rules over us; and the truth of the Lord endures forever.[SAAS] Δεῦρο τῶν Πρωτοπλάστων δυὰς ἡ τῆς χορείας ἐκπεσοῦσα τῆς ἄνωθεν, τῷ φθόνῳ τοῦ βροτοκτόνου διὰ πικρᾶς ἡδονῆς, τῆς τοῦ ξύλου πάλαι ἀπογεύσεως· ἰδοὺ τὸ πανσέβαστον ὄντως Ξύλον προσέρχεται· ᾧ προσδραμόντες, ἐν χαρᾷ περιπτύξασθε καὶ βοήσατε, πρὸς αὐτὸ μετὰ πίστεως. Σὺ ἡμῶν ἡ ἀντίληψις Σταυρὲ πανσεβάσμιε, οὗ τοῦ καρποῦ μετασχόντες τῆς ἀφθαρσίας ἐτύχομεν· Ἐδὲμ τὴν προτέραν κομισάμενοι βεβαίαν καὶ μέγα ἔλεος. Come now, O first-formed couple and pair, * who by the envy of humanity's murderer * had fallen from heaven's chorus * through having tasted of old * the most bitter sweetness of the fateful tree. * Behold, as the other Tree, which is truly all-venerable, * today is coming. Therefore run to it and with joy * cry aloud with faith, and embracing it say to it: * You, O all-venerable Cross * are truly our source of help; * we have partaken of your fruit, and incorruption instead of death * have we thus acquired * and great mercy and with certainty Eden once again.
