"Yellow Submarine" Easy Beginner Guitar Lesson and More!

Hey everyone! In today's lesson, I'm going to show you how to play "Yellow Submarine" by The Beatles. First, I'll show you how to play it in a really simple way using just three chord shapes. With that you'll be able to sing along, either with the recording or with your friends (after covid-time, of course...) Then, I'll show you a couple ways to spruce this one up and make it sound exactly like the recording. ► Yellow Submarine GUITAR TAB pdf is now published on Musicnotes (direct product links and FULL SONG PLAY-THROUGH are available on my Patreon page):   / 36293830   Need help with the basic chords and strumming? My beginner guitar course will help you build a solid foundation one step at a time: ► https://goodguitarist.com/beginner-gu... And don't forget to grab your copy of my free eBook: ► https://goodguitarist.com/learn-rhyth... The other strumming pattern used in this song: ►    • Essential Strumming Pattern #2 - The ...   TABLE OF CONTENTS 0:00 - INTRO 1:09 - CHORDS + TIPS 2:36 - SWITCHING PRACTICE 3:48 - RHYTHM + STRUMMING 6:19 - CHORUS 8:07 - VERSE VARIATION 10:28 - PUTTING IT TOGETHER 10:47 - FINAL PLAYALONG We start with the chord shapes needed to play the verse and chorus. It's just G, Am, and D. We practice the switching, we work through the progression, making sure we can keep time and play record the right number of times, and then I show you how to strum it. This song presents a great opportunity for me to explain a very important rhythm concept: There's only one strumming pattern... just down up the whole way. Once you get comfortable strumming, that's really all you're ever doing, and you simply accent or remove certain beats or, you know, play things a bit louder a bit quieter. Those are the variations that actually create a strumming pattern or a feeling. So, in this tune we play a simple pattern: down-up down-up down-up down-up. It uses a 16th note swing feel (that basically means the downstroke feels really long and upstrokes are short). I go over all of this in the video, as you know with rhythm stuff, it's really just a matter of listening to it more than reading about it. If you're just wanting to play the song, and you don't really care about the rhythm lesson, just use the most common strumming pattern ever.. here's a lesson for that:    • Essential Strumming Pattern #2 - The ...   Finally, we revisit the verse to add what I call "buddy chords." When you look at a tab of this online, it looks really complicated. It's like, "wow this verse has like a million chords in it," but really it's the same as the simple three chord verse, but before each of the chords, we're gonna play a different chord on beat four. So, before the D chord we play G, and so on. I show you a really good way to visualize this and internalize this information. And once we've worked through it with the strumming. It's just a matter of gluing those parts together, and you'll be able to play through the entire recording. Enjoy the lesson and take care! -James --- http://goodguitarist.com/yellow-subma...   / goodguitarist     / goodguitarist     / goodguitarist   #yellowsubmarine #thebeatles #guitartutorial
