This particular Optoma WU515 ended up with a partly burned lamp connector. I am not 100% sure of the cause as the lamp was also pretty burned but the lamp's pins were still at the correct height and hadn't slipped back. That can happen if the pin in the connector is not latched in all the way. In the female end, the burned connector looked to be pushed back. I have a theory that the connector was cracked and may have fallen apart slightly when the new lamp was installed. The pin of the new lamp, could have pushed the connector in the female end backwards, allowing this weird damage caused by arcing inside the connector instead of inside the arc tube. The projector was pretty dusty and had a full filter. Fortunately the ballast was fine and after some wrangling of the ferrite bead on the new lamp connector wire, and some contorting hand positions the projector was working again.
