Trump surpassed the necessary 270 electoral college votes on Wednesday morning to defeat Kamala Harris, his Democratic rival, and deny the country its first female president. His path back to the Oval Office became clear after a win in the crucial swing state of Pennsylvania before Wisconsin sealed the deal. Three of the seven swing states — Michigan, Nevada and Arizona — have not yet been called but are leaning Republican. If Trump is confirmed the winner, he will have swept all seven battleground states. Trump was also on track to win the national popular vote, the first time a Republican has done so since George W Bush in 2004.
