GrapheneOS Profiles - Work Profiles vs User Profiles | Shelter & Insular

There is a massive different between User Profiles and Work Profiles. It's important to understand the differences between them before choosing which one is right for you. By isolating user accounts and application data, Android allows multiple users to share a single Android device. A family can share an automobile, for example, or a critical response team can share a mobile device for on-call duty. User: Each user is designed to be utilized by a different individual. Each user has their own application data and preferences, as well as a user interface that allows them to switch between users manually. As another user is active, a user can run in the background; the system manages shutting down users to conserve resources when necessary. Secondary users can be added directly through the user interface or using the Device Administration program. Account: Accounts are housed within a user, although they are not defined by or tied to that user. Users and profiles each have their own accounts, although they are not required to be functional. Each user's account list is unique. Refer to the Account class specification for more information. Profile: A profile is a collection of app data that shares some system-wide settings (for example, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth). A profile is a subset of a user's existence and is linked to it. Multiple profiles are possible for a single user. A Device Administration program is used to build profiles. A profile is always linked to a parent user, which is determined by the user who created the profile. Profiles are only valid for the duration of the individual who created them. App: Each related user contains the data of an application. Within the same user, app data is sandboxed from other apps. IPC allows apps inside the same user to communicate with one another. For further information, see Android for Business. Work profiles are supported by the Android platform (sometimes referred to as managed profiles). A work profile is managed by an IT administrator, and the functionality it offers is distinct from that of the user's primary profile. This method allows businesses to manage the environment in which company-specific apps and data run on a user's device while still allowing users to utilize their personal apps and accounts. This tutorial demonstrates how to tweak your app so that it works reliably on a device with a work profile. You don't need to do anything other than follow standard app development guidelines. On devices with work profiles, though, some of these best practices become even more critical. This booklet emphasizes the issues you should be aware of. //SUPPORT THE CHANNEL: ☕ There's no obligation, but if you want to support the channel and what I create, click the link below to buy me a coffee, so I can stay awake while researching topics for future videos. https://support.sideofburritos.com //LINKS REFERENCED IN VIDEO: https://sideofburritos.com/blog/graph... //NEWSLETTER SIGNUP: https://sideofburritos.com //CONTACT: For all subscribers, please use this email: hi(at)sideofburritos.com PGP Key: https://sideofburritos.com/contact/ //VPS PROVIDER: Digital Ocean - https://m.do.co/c/5d8c108285a6 //CHAPTERS: Intro - 00:00 User Profiles Explained - 00:45 User Profile Downsides - 01:56 Work Profiles Explained - 02:57 Work Profile Example - 05:12 Final thoughts - 07:16 //DISCLAIMER: Links included in this description might be affiliate links.
