READ: Train set #4 has been delivered to Amtrak from Alstom's plant in Hornell, New York. Join us as we pick up the train in town and chase it all the way down to New York Penn Station via Buffalo and Albany. Power for this run is furnished by a P42DC and P40DC locomotive. As mentioned in the delivery video of train set #3, difficulties encountered with Norfolk Southern caused this delivery to run north to Buffalo before crossing east over the water level route to Albany then down the Hudson Line to NYP and then the NEC to Philadelphia. This was to avoid having to rely on NS pilots and dispatchers for a majority of the trip, as Amtrak crews are qualified from Buffalo to NYP. Even so, our departure from Hornell was delayed by 2 and a half hours due to the NS pilots required for the section between Hornell and Buffalo being unable to find transportation from the crew base in Binghamton to Hornell. After departing Hornell around 1pm, we catch the train in Portageville at the Genesee Arch Bridge, Buffalo at the old Erie Terminal building, Rochester at the Falls, just outside Syracuse, and Utica before we lose the light and drive down to NYP.
