It’s precisely because this film—which based on the true story of two men who won Olympic gold for Great Britain at the 1924 Paris Games—demands so much attention and analysis that, when you see how it combines with its iconic soundtrack, the great editing and acting, as well as the award-winning gorgeous costuming, to say nothing of its classic themes (identity, politics, religion), that when it’s all taken together, it makes me bold enough to say that Chariots of Fire is the single greatest sports film that has yet been made.
