Canacona police had acted after the duo was accused of duping a Canacona youth to the tune of Rs 5 lakh on the pretext of promising a job in the police department. This is the second jobs-for-cash racket reported in Canacona in two weeks. According to reports, a Canacona youth Krishna Naik had filed a police complaint accusing Ravin Bhandari of Polem and Rameshwar Mandrekar of Sanquelim of taking Rs 5 lakh as advance, after promising him a job in the police department. While an FIR was filed against the duo, police arrested Mandrekar and booked Bhandari in the case. Sources informed that in 2020, one of the accused approached Naik, assuring him a government job and his appointment in the police department while recruitment was underway. Meanwhile, Porvorim police have arrested Pooja Naik for allegedly cheating one person on pretext of giving a government job. Pooja was arrested after her police custody with Bicholim police ended. Earlier Bicholim JMFC Court had rejected bail plea of Pooja Naik 4- The Supreme Court held that a person holding a driving license for a light motor vehicle(LMV) can, without any specific endorsement, can drive a transport vehicle having an unladen weight of less than 7500 kg. If the gross weight of the vehicle is within 7500 kg, the driver with an LMV license can drive such a transport vehicle. The Court noted that no empirical data has been brought before it to show that LMV license holders driving transport vehicles are a significant cause of road accidents. 5- The Panaji Children's Court has framed charge against accused Suchana Seth under section 302 IPC for murdering her minor son. The Court has also framed charges against Suchana Seth under section 201 IPC for destruction of evidence and section 8 of the Goa Children's Act for failing to provide safe environment to the victim child, who was in her custody. Bengluru based techie and founder of start-up Mindful Labs- Suchana Seth was arrested in January this year by Calangute police for murdering her minor son in a hotel at Candolim. She was arrested when she was enroute back to Bengaluru in a taxi and body of minor son was recovered from her luggage bag. After framing the charge by the Court, accused Suchana Seth pleaded not guilty. Hence, the trial will start in the case. 6- In a significant development in Cunchelim-Mapusa, the Deputy Collector and Sub-Divisional Magistrate of Bardez, Kabir Shirgaonkar has issued demolition notices to house owners who were duped and unknowingly purchased government-owned land that now faces demolition.
