Tropical Storm Francine intensified to a Category 1 Hurricane on Tuesday night. The National Hurricane Center says life-threatening storm surges and hurricane-force winds are expected to hit Louisiana on Wednesday. Francine has sustained winds of 90 miles per hour as of Wednesday morning, and is expected to strengthen over the western Gulf of Mexico before making landfall as a low-end Category 2 storm. The hurricane is forecasted to drift slowly northeastward, and then make a northward turn once moving over land. Hurricane Francine is expected to hold it's hurricane strength before making landfall on the Louisiana coast sometime Wednesday. Because of this, the National Hurricane Center has issued Hurricane and Tropical Storm watches and warnings, anticipating impacts from the storm along the coast.
