Welcome! In today’s video I’m working on my hillside garden which has been a huge challenge since we’ve lived here. I have a few theories on what might be happening… either it’s just really poor soil or the area was treated with something years ago which is still impacting the ability to grow healthy plants (other than the trees and shrubs). Not even weeds grow on this hillside—a real rarity in eastern Washington! I decided to take the hillside in bite size chunks, working to bring in new soil and compost along with tough perennials that can stand up to intense heat and poor soil conditions. I hauled in four Little Spire Russian Sage plants and five Lemonjade Sedum. Both plant types should be able to handle this area (I hope 😯). I dug up several plants that I planted last spring before abandoning my project (hence the haphazard layout or lack thereof). I found it best to start with a clean slate and fresh soil. While it isn’t ideal to transplant in the summer, I was feeling fed up and needed to try something fresh with this area. I replanted several plants in a better arrangement and so far they’re all doing well! I’m really happy with how things turned out. I love the layered look and can’t wait to watch the plants mature and fill in over time. As promised, here is a link to my hillside garden inspiration: • Hillside Beauty 🌱 The Garden of Ellie...
