At the end of Sight & Sound’s JONAH, lead actor Rodney Coe shouts “I am free!”. While it’s part of the script, he’s not acting. As a hopeful young performer, Rodney landed in New York City in his early twenties. That dream came to a sudden halt when one night he was mugged and savagely beaten. He was left barely alive, with brain damage and the need for facial reconstructive surgery. He was told he would never act again. Struggling to make ends meet with limited cognitive ability, he resolved to filling popcorn at a movie theater concession stand. However God had a different plan. Through a miraculous reversal, Rodney found himself not just with the opportunity to act again, but eventually cast as the lead role in Sight & Sound’s production of Jonah – a story that is much like his own. After being filmed in front of a live audience, Rodney will now make his cinematic debut in Jonah: On Stage! May 2, gracing the screen in over 600 movie theaters nationwide.
