Virtual SambaFest 2021: Yamandu Costa

We are delighted to present our second artist, Yamandu Costa, a multiple Latin Grammy Nominee, who is a virtuoso of the Brazilian 7-string guitar. His passion and skill have been celebrated to international critical acclaim. Born to a musical family in the state of Rio Grande do Sul, Yamandu Costa played his first major concert at 17 years of age in São Paulo and quickly gained international fame for his outstanding talent. His repertoire includes musical styles including chorinho, bossa nova, milonga, tango, and samba among others, so his musical diversity makes it difficult to place him into a single category. Yamandu Costa has collaborated with artists including Bobby McFerrin, Gilberto Gil, João Bosco, and Marisa Monte, as well as with symphony orchestras around the world. In this specially-recorded concert for the 2021 Virtual Samba Fest, Yamandu Costa will perform a breathtaking set of Latin American pieces as well as brand new original compositions. This virtual event is supported by Trinity College, including the Department of Music, the Center for Caribbean Studies, and the Center for Urban and Global Studies and the Austin Arts Center Guest Artist Series.
