Description of the class: This class is for all ages. Learn the basics of the popular Métis dance, the Red River Jig! Rebecca Sadowski is an Edmonton, Alberta based dancer and instructor. Music: Red River Jig- Sierra Noble More About the Teacher: Rebecca is an Edmonton-based Métis performer, choreographer, and dance instructor. She recently joined the Good Women Dance Collective as the dance programming curator for the Nextfest Festival and currently teaches dance with Mile Zero Dance Outreach, dancED Movement Projects, and the City of Edmonton. She has recently performed with Punctuate! Theatre, Alberta Aboriginal Arts, Good Women Dance Collective, Northern Light Theatre, Thou Art Here Theatre, and Catch the Keys Productions. She has also performed in Toronto with Solar Stage Children’s Theatre and the Lower Ossington Theatre. Her original choreography has been presented by Mile Zero Dance, Expanse Festival, Nextfest Festival, Alberta Culture Days, and the Edmonton Fringe Festival with Alberta Opera. Upcoming in the 2020-12 season, Rebecca will be joining the Good Women Dance Collective and vocal quartet, Femme, in their ongoing collaboration of The Beginning of Happiness. Rebecca will also be making her Citadel performance debut in Bears, by Matthew MacKenzie, as well as choreographing After the Fire, at the Citadel presented with Punctuate Theatre and Dreamspeakers. Rebecca holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Dance from Ryerson University, and continues to deepen her connection to her Métis roots by learning Métis jigging and the traditional skill of finger-weaving sashes.
