10 Ways We Keep Our Marriage FUN! // Pregnant with Baby #5

Today we are sharing with you 10 things (plus a couple bonus tips!) that we do to keep our marriage fun! :) 1. Showering every single night 2. Going to bed at the same time 3. Thinking of marriage in terms of themes - Life themes rather than life stages. We like to think of everything as a big long theme. 4. Putting toothpaste on Katie’s toothbrush - It makes me feel so loved because it makes me know that Elisha was thinking of me when he was brushing his teeth. 5. Staying healthy and attractive for your spouse 6. Learning new hobbies and skills - Whether it’s a big or little thing, learning something together is extremely bonding. It’s building your confidence. It’s showing the other person you are willing to get outside your comfort zone with them. 7. Agreeing in public/Disagreeing in private - It is counterproductive for your marriage to tear the person down that God has said you’re one with. 8. Personal hygiene 9. Having a little spontaneity - Little spontaneous moments can really make your marriage fun, sparky, enjoyable and like you’re young again even when you have a lot of demands on your time. 10. Studying the Bible thoroughly Bonus Tips 11. Appreciation instead of expectation - Having the atmosphere of appreciation for all those things that could be expectations makes marriage so much more fun and rewarding. It is such a gift to be grateful to each other. 12. Self-development - We should be developing ourselves. We should be growing and learning new things. When you do this, it makes you far more interesting to your spouse. 13. Clear roles in your marriage - We base this off of what we see in Scripture. For things that are a little more grey, we consider those responsibilities and see who would like to do them the most and divvy those up. We will help each other in our roles, but the ultimate responsibility falls on the weight of the person who is caring for that role. 14. Do not keep score - We are Katie & Elisha. God has put us together. He’s formed us to be together in union in a marriage. We want to thrive in that context. Ephesians 5:29 - “For no man ever yet hated his own flesh; but nourisheth and cherisheth it,” Keep this in mind - If you have this mindset that it keeps getting better because we get better at being married, it makes the future of being married to someone for 60 years a lot more exciting than if you think the infatuation stage or the stage of when we didn’t have kids is behind us. Instead we are able to think "Wow, we weren’t very good at marriage back then. We didn’t know each other very well."
