Tok Kise and the Muslim Community of Ayutthaya

This documentary video presents voices on traditions of the Muslim community of Phukhaothong in Ayutthaya, Thailand. In particular, it centers on the legacy of a 19th-century Qadariyya Sufi: Shaykh Muhammad Ali Shukri, known popularly as Tok Kise. The video captures a vibrant annual boat procession along the Chao Phraya River, a symbol of unity and diversity, as it involves Muslims of all genders and ages as well as non-Muslim members of the community. The distinctive songs of the Phukhaothong Muslim community played by a marching band along the route add to the celebratory atmosphere. Elegantly dressed in traditional attire, the community comes together to celebrate their shared heritage and faith. The audio for this documentary is in Thai with Thai subtitles.
