Lost for words, honestly. Shiny Roaming Entei in Crystal after only 100 seen. Even now during editing and uploading, it doesn’t feel real. I really hope that I never beat my fastest hunt after this. I always see people get shinies under 200 encounters and I’ve always thought it would never happen to me but here we go. I’ve started every hunt since my Sneasel in Platinum after 331 encounters wishing for a new fastest hunt but it never happened, until now. Shiny Entei has a rather different look in Gen 2 than in later generations. Its colours are harsher and darker which I think suits its appearance quite a bit more than in Gen 3 where, while nice, its lighter tone isn’t quite as grabbing. I initially started this hunt in the VC copy of Crystal but I recently switched to physical cartridges for current (and future) Gen 2 hunts. I do this because I prefer the feel of a Gameboy/GBA SP in my hand than a 3DS. I don’t think there’s anything wrong with VC but as someone who grew up playing Crystal over and over again, it just doesn’t feel right to me personally. I also do this so I can also show the Pokemon I find off in Stadium 2 as I recently modified my N64 for HDMI output. I actually did 50 encounters in the VC copies of Crystal so this Entei technically appeared after only 50 seen on this cartridge. Insane! I wanted to leave the Gen 2 roamers as long as possible in my roamer quest as they’re very special hunts to me. My favourite trio in my main childhood game. I figured that doing one of them for my 10th Shiny Roamer will be more than amazing, it’s incredible. I’m still lost for words. The Roamers in Gen 2 have rather interesting mechanics and it’s a topic that I’ve had long discussions with dataminers & fellow hunters. I want to give full credit to GlitchCity user IceFlame whose article from 2016 highlights the method used for this video. They took the time to document the locations in the RAM and took an, in their words, obsessive interest in this topic. I really advise reading through this even if you’re not interested in hunting the Beasts. It’s always interesting to read specific mechanics in my opinion. https://forums.glitchcity.info/index.... I also want to thank users from the Pret Discord server for their help in determining the % chance per tile of a roamer appearing which is a crazy low ~0.98% chance with a Repel applied. This is a big difference from Gen 3 in which you have a ~5.5% chance per tile with a Repel applied. These conversations took place almost 3 years ago so I don’t remember usernames but you’re appreciated nonetheless! It’s also a single byte in the data that prevents Suicune from roaming in Crystal which is funny. I would like to note an additional method that has been used by other shiny hunters and it was documented by Metarkrai. It may actually be slightly faster on average with two systems to hunt specifically Entei using the Burned Tower method (in Gold/Silver only). Entei sees a rather large increase in % chance to be on Route 37.
