Tenkara Steelhead?

Finally decided to try for some steelhead on a Lake Erie tributary with a tenkara rod. Technically the rod I was using was a Keiryu rod, the Daiwa Kiyose 53. I didn't manage to land any of the fish today, but I do not believe it was any fault of the rod. The hooks were barbless and the big one broke off a faulty knot. After trying this, I definitely think this is a viable technique for these fish if you size the rod appropriately. An undersized rod is simply asking to be broken. I think a longer rod would be more appropriate on larger rivers since it gives you more reach and line to work with (but huge waters a running fish run may still spell trouble) The reach of these long rods is really an asset to presentation, especially when the water is clear and the fish are spooky. I will definitely try this again.
