#shipping #drone #trial #uas #video #sea-trials #breaking-news It’s a challenging operation to safely pilot a drone from onboard a moving vessel at sea but the challenges don’t come any harder than conducting this flight from the deck of a new passenger ferry during during her first sea trials. With metal beneath me, around me, radar masts and whip aerials causing significant signal interference, high winds, gusts and a moving ship. The only way to fly a Drone is totally Manually with ALL sensors, GPS & Obstacle avoidance turned off. Hand launching and catching is the only way to safely mitigate risk of crashing (if your skill set is up to it). A safe option is to utilise someone else confident enough to partake in this important role whilst you totally focus on flying. Thanks to Ferguson Marine, Port Glasgow for allowing me the opportunity to join the Team on Board ‘Glen Sannox’ on her first Builders Sea Trials as the team conducted rigorous manoeuvres.
