Join us on an unforgettable journey as we tackle our biggest adventure yet: hiking Vârful Toaca in the majestic Masivul Ceahlău! At a towering 1,904 meters (6,247 feet), this hike is one of the highest and most challenging trails in Romania—and it’s our first time hiking together! From intense ascents to breathtaking views, this hike pushed us to our limits physically and mentally. Starting from Durău, we followed the iconic red and white markers through rocky paths, dense forests, and steep staircases to reach the summit. Along the way, we faced a few unexpected twists, accidentally took a tougher trail, and encountered Romania’s rich history at La Morminte—a site honoring the brave heroes who fought German forces in World War II. Each step revealed more of the mountain’s secrets, from the legendary Căciula Dorobanțului (Dorobantu’s Helmet) to the mystical Stânca Panaghia and the incredible Belvedere viewpoint, where we discovered the story of Cununa Zimbrului (The Wisent's Wreath). The journey was as breathtaking as it was daunting, especially for someone with a fear of heights! Climbing the Meteorological Station Access Stairs to reach the peak was one of the scariest yet most rewarding moments of my life. Standing at the summit, surrounded by the Carpathian peaks and looking out over Lacul Bicaz (Bicaz Lake), I felt a sense of accomplishment I’ll never forget.
