There’s no doubt that Rik Emmett is one of the most underrated guitarists in any music genre, ever. While Mike Levine (bass) and Gil Moore (drums) are respectable musicians in their own right, Emmett was obviously the real heart of Triumph. Not only a spectacular guitarist and songwriter, he has unforgettable pipes that literally soar to the heavens. During their performance at the US Festival in 1983 and elsewhere, his main guitar was a heavily modified Framus Akkerman. I’ve never seen one used before or since, and its tone is absolutely brilliant. Have a listen to this incredible solo which took place in front of an audience of 500,000, and you be the judge.
