This video discusses the reasons for crate training and the best practice for easing your puppy into enjoying the crate. How to Practice Encouraging your puppy to sleep in the crate at night is one of the best ways to create a positive association with the crate. Feeding your puppy in the crate is also a great way to create a trust of the crate and solidify the crate as a space where good things happen. Practice Tips When you feed your puppy in the crate, put the food dish all the way to the back of the crate so the puppy has to go all the way in the crate to get the food. Do not close the crate door on the puppy…this will create a trust that you are not going to close them in every time they go in the crate. When it is bed time, if your puppy is struggling, put the crate next to your bed…or if the crate is outside of your bedroom set up a bed for yourself next to the crate. DO NOT ENGAGE WITH THE PUPPY. It is not play time or pet time..it is sleep time. If your pup is struggling you can put one hand through the crate but don’t talk to your puppy.
