Overlanding Southern Africa: JTS2 Ep 13 - Living Lesotho Loca - adventuring from Katse to Semonkong

Lesotho is spectacular but traversing the Mountain Kingdom also takes time - something we are rapidly running out of! So to try eek out the most from the places we've chosen to base ourselves meant some marathon sessions in the Pajero and we were in for another - from Katse Village to Semonkong. Heeding local advice, we ended up re-routing and back tracking to Semonkong via Maseru and Roma, instead of our original, more 'direct' route via Thaba Tseka. It was an epic trip on some truly spectacular roads, climbing and dropping over 1000m at a time, with the Pajero in low range at times on tar just to handle the climbs! Semonkong Lodge would be our base for two nights. We were really amped for some more 'wild camping' but with their camp sites situated right on the edge of the river, it was still a damn good place to call home. With the Maletsunyane Falls as the major drawcard in the area, Semonkong Lodge is well situated and geared up to not only offer guests a great base, but also variety of authentic experiences. We had grand plans to hike to the Waterfall but a brandy ankle tap and a bold rescue of an Angora Goat kid perched precariously on the cliffs overlooking the Lodge, saw us spend the day exploring and enjoying the river running through our camp. Fly fishing was a fitting end to an amazing day and the end of Living Lesotho Loca...
