"Mental health problems in children and young people are increasing - we need to act NOW! The Decider Life Skills are 12 evidence based, award winning key skills for proactive mental health. Michelle Ayres and Carol Vivyan are Cognitive Behavioural Psychotherapists who have worked in mental health for over thirty years. They developed The Decider Life Skills, a new, proactive approach, which develops a common language for us all to manage our emotions. The skills benefit everyone; personally, socially, emotionally and financially. Carol Vivyan is a Cognitive Behavioural Psychotherapists and mental health nurse from Guernsey, Channel Islands. Together with Michelle Ayres they won the 2015 British Journal of Nursing's Mental Health Nurse of the Year for the Decider Life Skills they created. Carol is the author and creator of the CBT self help and therapy resource website: Getselfhelp.co.uk (Get.gg). Michelle and Carol realised that mental health services are set up to treat problems too late. They imagined teaching fun and effective Life Skills to children and young people BEFORE any problems emerged. Teaching these Life Skills just the same way we teach about fire drill - to all children in all schools and reinforced often. Just a few hours teaching could have a massive impact on our future mental health and wellbeing. The central message of The Decider Life Skills is "If you always do what you always did, you will always get what you always got". It's time to change.
