My instruments: The "Hasalpi" from Sumatra
From time to time I will try to present some selected instruments from my collection. Please keep in mind that I am not a professional performer on these instruments, I just want to give an idea how they sound. This long necked lute is coming from the lake Toba region in Sumatra. I am not sure if this was really used as a musical instruments, because normally boatlutes or long necked lutes like this use frets or something similar, which are missing here. It has also problems to keep the tuning due to poor tuning pegs. But the totem heads on top are beautifully carved and make this an outstanding instrument.
