In this video, I go through the start of my process of diagnosing why my 2007 Chevy Silverado Classic whines with acceleration or increased RPMs. I ended up replacing the alternator and the idler pulley in this 2007 Silverado and documented the entire process for you guys/gals on YouTube. Listening to both the alternator and idler pulley with the stethoscope produced some very similar noises to the whine heard in this video so I deemed that a good place to start. Unfortunately, as you'll see at the end of the video the noise is not entirely eradicated. My next guess is the power steering pump as it's right near those other components and the sound I heard through the stethoscope could have been traveling through the mounts into those other parts. It's also a common issue with these trucks. There may actually be a small leak somewhere that has introduced a power steering pump whine so I may have to do a power steering fluid flush in the future.
