Overview: Artificial Intelligence (AI) stands at the forefront of technological innovation, with the potential to revolutionise countless aspects of our lives. The talk titled "Can Artificial Intelligence (AI) save the world and everything in it? (spoiler alert: probably not!)" aims to demystify AI, delineating its capabilities and limitations. It will discuss the fundamentals of AI, distinguishing between the hyperbolic myths and the practical realities. By presenting realistic examples, the talk will highlight how AI is already providing tangible benefits in critical areas such as food production and consumption. It will delve into AI's role in improving production efficiency, reducing waste, and developing new products, thereby addressing some of the most pressing challenges of our time. However, the talk will also acknowledge the inherent limitations of AI, emphasising that while AI can be a powerful tool for progress, it is not a panacea for all the world's problems.
