Sewing Overalls: vintage reproduction Simplicity S8447

Pattern: Simplicity S8447 (reproduction of 40s vintage pattern). Fabric: chambray from Hobby Lobby, $2/yd (intended to be a wearable muslin before cutting into suiting fabric for more formal/dressy overalls for work). Buttons: random vintage from my stash Cute overalls, super comfy, easy to get in/out of, and I’ll make them again. But I will start with intending to use a zipper instead of all the buttonhole placket pieces. So pattern piece 16 will be used for both front and back, and won’t use facing pieces 3 & 4. Questions not answered in the video: Straps-I sewed down the straps in the back. The buttons are purely for decoration. They easily slip on/off, even when I need to make a quick restroom stop (at my age 🙄). I thought about using elastic thread to give them a bit more flexibility, but they feel very secure as they are. I’m short waisted and found these straps to be just about perfect length—next time I may shorten them an 1/2 inch, to help keep that lower back bodice upright more. Sides-I always have to add width to my garments under the arms, and I forgot on this. Next time I’ll pattern fit before I cut fabric. Hem-the pattern has the option to do cuffs, but my fabric was so thick, I decided against them & did a simple hem. I think in a thinner fabric the cuffs would give it more of a vintage look/feel.
