It does not seem so important... on the contrary, it is a very useful trim and an upholsterer should master the how to, the same way as doing piping or french seams. There are 'special binder attachments' that help to do a nicer binding. Some sewing-machines come with this accesory, otherwise you should have to adapt it to your machine.
