Here’s the Four Beers Polka on a 1939 Patek concertina. It just received a new set of bellows shortly before this video was recorded. This particular instrument (known affectionately as “Patrick” in the Minnesota polka musician world) started life as a plain gray pearl Patek “Music Master General” model equipped with an excellent set of John Kummer reeds. At some point in the early 1960s, Christy Hengel decided to have it re-covered in white pearl and had it engraved with pineapple engraving to make it look like the coveted Patek “Deluxe” model. This instrument was owned and played for many years by Johnny Gag of the Katzenjammers and Six Fat Dutchmen fame. It is now owned and played by Brian Brueggen, bandleader of the Mississippi Valley Dutchmen band.
