Catch up on Part 1 of our Inca Jungle Trek series here:    • Inca Jungle Trail | Mountain Biking, ...   This is Part 2 of our Inca Jungle trek and we finally make it to Machu Picchu! However, before we got there we had a few more obstacles to tackle. The last segment of our trek had us hiking a short 10km along the train track into the valley (with a few thousand mozzies). Surrounded but the stunning, towering mountains we arrived at Aguas Calientes - the gorgeous, gateway town to Machu Picchu. Once there we had to complete a very complicated waiting game to purchase tickets to enter the ancient Incan city the following day. Organised for the morning, we thought we would indulge in a well earned night out. One of us had far too much fun… The next morning brought one hell of a hangover (or is it still a little tipsy?) and a decision to take the bus up the mountain to see the glorious Machu Picchu! Walking around this Wonder of the World was an amazing experience and it wasn’t hard to see why the Incas built here, it is breathtaking. We marvelled at the ingenuity of the structures and finally got to pat a llama, before it was time to make our way back to Cusco where the adventure began. Unlike our journey out, it was a much simpler return. The vista-dome train glided us away through the valley and was lined with windows at all angles to catch some epic scenery. Relaxed but ready for a hot shower, we took a bus the rest of the way to Cusco. This experience was very different to the typical trek, but so enjoyable (less the mozzie bites). Our time around Cusco was only just beginning and we can’t wait to show you what we did next.
