MAYNE ISLAND - Four passengers and a crew member of a BC Ferry are recovering from injuries after the vessel slammed into the dock while pulling into Mayne Island this morning. This isn't the first time a B.C. Ferries vessel has made a hard landing. In 2005, the Queen of Oak Bay lost power while docking at Horseshoe Bay. No one was hurt but the ferry crushed several smaller boats when it slammed into a nearby dock. In Nanaimo in 1989, a mechanical malfunction caused the Queen of Alberni to crash into the Departure Bay Ferry Terminal. And one of the worst disasters in B.C. Ferries 50-year history happened in 2006 when the Queen of the North sank after hitting Gil Island. Two people died.
