What a fishing session this was. After a few weeks of not being able to go fishing due to illness, I was suffering with sea fishing withdrawals however. although my health had improved, the tides, weather etc were not so good so again I had to wait. Finally the weather and tidal flow looked good and I was ready for a sea fishing session from the beach at Bridport, Dorset, UK. Before venturing out to sea fish, I prepared the Mackerel and Squid into half and half cocktail sausage style baits. I had saved 4 whole Squid that I intended to use later in the evening in the hope of catching a Bass. Also, just in case there were crabs about attacking my bait I would be able to use the Squid with a balsa wood pop up inside to give a little buoyancy (this type of pop up baiting up is available to view on my YouTube channel). This type of pop up bait provides buoyancy keeping the bait off the sea bed floor and hopefully helping to keep the crabs from getting it. With a moderate sea flow and a slight bit of colour in the water I decided to use a pulley rig and because I was using a sausage style bait, a pennel hook was also used in order to keep the bait held in place and provide an additional potential way of hooking a fish. I used a 3/0 J hook as the main hook and a 1/0 half circle hook as the pennel. As the sea tidal flow was only moderate, I decided to use my Century T700 fishing rod, the ultimate rod for sea fishing from the beach on smooth ground in my opinion and easy to cast at a fair distance with a simple overhead thump. Sea fishing UK 2024 on Chesil, Dorset started by losing a fish in the surf within minutes of fishing however, I did get a glance at the fish and I was fairly sure it was a small (strap) Conger Eel so no big loss there.
