Pollywog surf travel presents Pasta Point. Book your surf trip to the Maldives with us now. Pasta Point, Cinnamon Dhonveli, Maldives - the ultimate luxury tropical surf destination and one of the best places to surf in the world. TLDR - Epic surf trip from South Africa. Stayed in over-water bungalows on Dhonveli, 2 minutes walk to Pasta Point surf spot, surfed all morning, eat and drink amazing food overlooking the wave, dive with amazing tropical marine life, surf all afternoon until sunset, drink beer as the sun goes down. Paradise. We left South Africa in September en route the surf trip of a life time - the Maldives, a tropical paradise in the Indian ocean. The Maldives is made up of a number of atolls and each atoll is made up of a number of islands. We were headed to the central atolls, which experience the best surf in the middle of the year - May, June and July having the biggest swells - but August and September often seen late season swells and something better conditions. This was sure to be the dream surf trip, and as South African surfers travelling to the warm, idyllic Indian ocean island of Chaaya Dhonveli, we were frothing. Pasta Point is notorious for being the most consistent wave in the Maldives and it breaks almost year round. The winter months (May-July) bring the biggest swell and the most travelers. The famous left-hander breaks over smooth reef and is an incredible ride in all conditions, without being too sketchy. Described as a user-friendly wave, this surf spot is ideal for all level of surfers - from beginners to professionals. There is a small barreling section on the inside on certain tides. The on-hand surf-guides also make surfing Pasta Point that much safer. If you are in the mood for surf travel, look no further. In additional to the incredible surf, Pasta Point is also special for a number of other reasons. Firstly, the island limits the number of surfers to 30 at a time, so crowds are controlled and waves guaranteed. The island is also the best positioned for quick access to nearby Sultans, Honkeys and Jailbreaks - all public waves - which enables a short exclusive window in the morning before the crowds arrives. Yes, you will pay for these privileges, but I can assure you it is worth it. On top of this, the team at Pasta Point, Dhonveli also ensure that you are taken care of, both inside and outside the water. The rooms and food are impeccable and the SPA is always ready to sooth aching muscles after hours of paddling and wave riding. Families and honeymooners are also accommodated. The energy in the water at Pasta Point is friendly, largely because there is enough wave to go around. Couple the good vibes, with crystal clear, blue-green, translucent water - the tropical island dream; and abundant ocean and sea life - white tip sharks, manta rays, sea turtles and fish are plentiful on the reefs surround the island. If you are looking for the ultimate surf trip, with your friends or your family, Pasta Point in the Maldives is quite possibly your best bet. The trip from South Africa to the Maldives will take you via Dubai and then into Male, where you will be greeted by the turquoise ocean right outside the airport door. Transfer to your island home will be by boat or sea-plane. We took the 15 minute boat trip to Dhonveli, where we were met on the dock and ceremoniously welcomed to the sandy shores of the small island. The weather was hot and balmy, typical of the equatorial region and the sea water was warm. We surfed in board shorts and rash vests. Sometimes even a hat.
