Prehistoric Isle Longplay (Arcade) [QHD]

Game Info --------------------------------------------------- Developer: SNK Publisher: SNK Year of Release: 1989 Game Review & Impressions --------------------------------------------------- Essentially R-Type with dinosaurs, Prehistoric Isle is another interesting game from SNK's pre Neo Geo period. The game is very much inspired by the kind of B-movie monster movies popular throughout the 1950s, and this hard-as-nails shooter features some really impressive visuals and animation for the time, which is unsurprising, given the company's pedigree. As with R-Type, players can bolster the firepower of their plane via a 'satellite' unit. The satellite can be rotated in fixed degrees around the perimeter of your ship by pressing the appropriate button, and each position activates a different weapon. Choosing the correct position/weapon for the correct situation becomes a vital part of a winning strategy, particularly in the later game where you'll be absolutely swarmed with enemies. The satellite can also absorb enemy projectiles, but this will eventually destroy it; given that you'll rarely find more than one satellite per level, you really need to make it last as long as possible - having it blow up before a boss is really not a good idea. Prehistoric Isle is an unashamed coin muncher with little in the way of concessions for the player, but it's still a cool entry in the shoot 'em up genre, one which would get a sequel a few years later. There's fun to be had hear, just bring a sack of quarters with you. Information & Trivia --------------------------------------------------- Although difficult to prove conclusively, similarities in animation and art style suggest members of the team who worked on Prehistoric Isle also worked on NAM-1975 for the Neo Geo. Sequel 'Prehistoric Isle 2' released for Neo Geo in 1999 Video Notes --------------------------------------------------- Related Longplays & Videos --------------------------------------------------- Chapters --------------------------------------------------- 00:00 Attract mode 00:29 Stage 1: Forest 04:34 Stage 2: Airborne 06:00 Stage 3: On the Ground 11:05 Stage 4: Bottom of the Sea 15:58 Stage 5: Underground 19:35 Final Boss 20:35 Ending #prehistoricisle #snk #retrogaming
