As previous SpongeBob showrunner Paul Tibbitt reveals during a Q&A, the original Potty puppet was ruined. What happened? It all went down during promotion for a big SpongeBob special at the time - Atlantis SquarePantis. To celebrate SpongeBob and friends heading to Atlantis, Nickelodeon's marketing department decided to create a few shorts taking place in the SpongeBob universe. Patchy the Pirate and Potty the Parrot were both underwater during these shorts, which resulted in chaos behind the scenes.
