This is a cold start on my 1980 International Scout Traveler Diesel with an SD 33t engine. They are notoriously hard to start in the cold. I have made several mods that make it a lot better than stock. Here are the easy and more importantly cheap mods you can do to get these beasts lit in colder weather. 1. Ford starter solenoid so the stock glow plug switch does not take a beating with the direct current flowing through it. 2.Wire each glow plug direct instead of in series 3. Get new glow plugs 4. Fuel heater in Racor Fuel filter With these mods and no block heater it starts reliably down to about 0 degrees. It does take some time, but it is a 40 plus yr old mechanical diesel.
