I have walked through the town of Futaba in Fukushima Prefecture, where the effects of the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant accident still linger. Futaba Town is located within a 20km radius of the Tokyo Electric Power Company's Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant. During the nuclear accident caused by the Great East Japan Earthquake in March 2011, all residents of the town were forced to evacuate. Even now, many areas of the town are designated as areas where it is difficult to return, and residents are still forced to live as evacuees. It was one of the areas most heavily impacted by the nuclear accident, and efforts towards recovery and reconstruction are ongoing.
