Tutorial at The 3rd UCL OpenFOAM Workshop #hydrofoil #cavitation #paraview #openfoam #ucl #workshop Speaker: Nicolas has completed his studies in the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki and Cranfield University in the UK and got a Diploma and Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering and Gas Turbine Technology. Currently he is also completing his PhD in Computational methods for calculating underwater noise from ships. Nicolas worked for two years in the private sector as an expert in Computational Fluid Dynamics in research activities related to air emission reduction technologies in the area of soot filters and NOx reduction for Diesel Engines. In 2004 joined the Department of Merchant Shipping as a Marine Surveyor and served in the units of Seafarer’s and Maritime Labour, Maritime Safety and Security Unit and Maritime Policy Unit. In 2012 during the Cyprus EU presidency was transferred to the Maritime office in London serving as the Alternate Permanent Representative of Cyprus to the IMO attending the IMO meetings and several EU meetings as part of the Cypriot Delegation. Since July 2017 has be given the post of Project Officer in Unit B.3 (Environment and Capacity Building) in the European Maritime Safety Agency (EMSA). Under this capacity he is involved in various marine environment topics of the Agency such as Antifouling Systems, Ship alternative Power Systems, Ship Recycling. He is also part of the team in EMSA that is responsible for the development and maintenance of ship inspection support tools such as RuleCheck and THETISEU which supports Flag and Port State Control Enforcement foreseen from the EU legislation.
