Train Cyr Wheel with Me! (Circus Training Journal #1, Feb. 7)

Come along with me for a training session focused around my newest prop, the CYR Wheel at Dreamscape in Pai, Thailand This is the first time I have ever attempted to record the entirety of a training session, and its the first time I have ever offered a view of my practice to the public... My movement practice is something very special to me, and even just opening the door into a technical session feels a bit raw and vulnerable... but I remember that this is the reason I have chosen to be an artist... to seek discomfort, to be seen in my discomfort, and to transmute it into something beautiful. I still am incredibly nervous to speak in front of a camera, but i am treating it as a grand experiment. I notice the small mannerisms that present differently when I get nervous, how my voice changes, how i fidget with my hands, or look anywhere but the lens... This is proving to be a great exercise authenticity and a test of self confidence... I've had a few months away from cyr wheel, and much of my circus training in general. I have been struggling a bit with mental health issues and as a result, lost a lot of motivation and suffered the weight of severe burn out. I was afraid to lose my greatest passion so I preserved myself by taking a step back from pressure inducing, circus related things and focused on what really fueled me and lit my inner light. Now, coming out on the other side of that deep canyon of a rut, I am so much more clear on my passion and its purpose. I am excited to dedicate the next few months to the development of my craft as an art, not as a profession. I really enjoyed creating this type of video, not only for the creation of something tangible to look back on and remember my progress, but also to hopefully inspire revelations and growth in others attempting the same learning process as me. I hope to continue making this form of video and create a physical vault of training sessions to look back on :-)
