Bus Blunder: Quest 80 & Locomotors: How NOT to Build Buses! [UK Bus History]

In 1979, a new UK bus manufacturing and design consultancy company appeared - called Quest 80. Their first product was a trolleybus chassis for South Africa - the first trolleybus equipment built in the UK in 27 years. Quest 80 soon branched out to a whole new range of unusual buses and coaches. (Note: The colorful picture of Buddens E221GNV at 5:42, taken in August, 1989, is credited to photographer Dave58282) Working very closely with bodybuilder Locomotors, they developed some of the strangest looking buses to hit the road. One of these, the Merseyside B-type, arrived too late for its intended purpose - the 1984 Liverpool Festival of Gardens. The buses were soon sold to other operators for limited use. While there were high hopes for the buses built by Quest 80 and Locomotors, as well as other bodybuilders, the vehicles, especially the coaches, developed a poor reputation, especially mechanically, due to their U-drive chain drive.
