Starting year 2023 right! This year, with the pax restrictions released, close to 150 students excluding staffs were present to Re-Energize, reaffirm & to Boost our spirit for a greater start this year. The Keiko Hajime is considered an important event to most serious martial artists. Regardless if you have been training for one month, one year, 10 years, 20 years, 30 years, the first training session of the year is an opportunity to re-affirm our commitment to our own training, the Dojo and towards our own personal development. This year's class started off with an in-depth sharing of Aikido from the Chief Instructor and various approach which made it different from the normal class practice, the session was focused on advance learning - the ideology of KI - 氣, and the importance of maintaining calm, relax and at peace when practicing Aikido. "Revitalize Training energy - Empowering start" — First training of the year, it may well be the single most important event of the year for all of us dedicated Martial Artist. First training session of the year is an opportunity to re- energize and re-affirm your commitment to your training, your Dojo and yourself. "Sake barrel breaking" called iwai-zake ("celebration sake") In a ceremony called kagami biraki, wooden casks of sake are opened with mallets. This sake, is served freely to all to spread good fortune! "Ichinen new year resolution" Different from the traditional "ema" in Japan. ASK way is to write "ichinen" resolution on it. An Ichinen however is much more powerful and deeper in meaning as compared to a resolution, it means just one determined, heartfelt mission to accomplish for the year. "Red apple & Suckling Pig” Red apple for good luck and suckling pig; a tradition in Chinese communities for special celebration mingling and new year celebration particularly for large families. … and the rest of the day continued with sake drinking and mingling. Special mention to all our sponsors who have made this event possible. Sensei Bob, Sensei Kok Hiang, Sensei Annie, Instructor Alex Instructor Alvin, Instructor Clement, Instructor EO, Instructor Jury Instructor Lisa, Instructor Louwena, Instructor Winnie, Instructor Mark, Instructor Crystal, Catherine Alec, Vincent Along with the above specially mentioned. Special shout-out to our backend team and staffs whom have worked past the day before in new year eve to bring us this event and have made the event a great success. Thus, with the end of "Keiko Hajime", let us ask ourselves what is our real "Ichinen" this year? For us at Aikido Shinju-Kai, will continue to spearhead the martial arts Aikido community in South East Asia. We will be seeing you on the mats. Share with us yours, even better, show us.
