For a very long time, the world has feared the power of the Witch and her connection to the spirit realms. We women have been persecuted for our magical and intuitive ways, and as a result, we’ve hidden our spiritual power—even from ourselves. The witch hunts massacred thousands of women across Europe…women who were the community healers, midwives and Wise Women. In Ireland, there was a time when the Mná Chaointe (the Keening Women) were punished by the Church for leading death rituals in their communities, which led to the decline of these important rites. Importantly, these women were also often the village midwives. Sisters, this legacy of persecution and oppression lives inside of us still. Many of us have an innate fear of being persecuted, shamed or rejected for claiming our gifts and embracing our intuitive, magical nature. Many of us shy away from the healing magic that runs in our veins for fear of being outcast. And yet, at this great turning of the ages, we have a powerful opportunity to heal this ancient wound and unearth our feminine magic. Through the power of our intention, we can honor and heal the Wise Women of our lineage who were hunted and persecuted—those who could not embody their spiritual gifts.
