Tropicana Las Vegas is a hotel casino located on Las Vegas Boulevard just south of the MGM Grand and across the street from the Excalibur Las Vegas. Tropicana opened on April 4, 1957 at a cost of $15 million to build. After many renovations, Tropicana had 1,467 hotel rooms. Tropical was the oldest operating casino on the Las Vegas Strip. It was home to the Laugh Factory , MJ Live and Purple Reign shows. It featured restaurants like Robert Irvine's Public House and Oakville Steakhouse. Tropicana closed its doors for good on April 2, 2024 to make way for a new $1.5 billion baseball stadium for the Las Vegas A's and a new casino resort. The implosion date was October 9, 2024 at 2:37 AM. Before the implosion, there was a drone and fireworks display for seven minutes long. Then the implosion lasted 22 seconds long. Ground breaking for the new Las Vegas A's stadium will be April 2025. The plan is to open the stadium in time for the 2028 Major League Baseball season. The stadium will have 33,000 seats.
