The last steam running session on the Coniston Railway

On 26th May 2012, 57 years of miniature railway history in the Lake District came to an end with the sale by auction of the entire Coniston Railway, locos, stock, track, buildings, signals, the lot. Back in October last year, the very last running session was held with two locos in steam, 4-4-0 "Josephene" and 4-6-4 "Holywrath" and I was extremely privaliged to be present at what was, at the end, a very private railway. With an expectation that it might well be the last proper running day a film record was made of the entire day, from lighting up to putting the locos back in the shed. Additionally some special trains were run, including a spectacular double header. Many thanks to the volunteers of the railway for letting me film and upload this video. This video is dedicated to the memory of Major John Hext, who built and ran the Coniston Railway.
