Caldo Inverno in Arco is 7 pitches, 180 meters and grade 6a. Some climbing guidebooks grade the multi-pitch route 5c, but I would say this would probably be to sandbag the grade. I would reckon Caldo Inverno in Arco is more technical than that. Caldo Inverno is a great beginner introduction to multi-pitch rock climbing as it offers a very varied rock climbing experience. And all belay stations are bolted! Caldo Inverno is solidly bolted with a couple of meters between each bolt, and you will find plenty in-situ gear along the way too. So you will always feel secure and protected. Perfect for rock climbing beginners! Finding Caldo Inverno is also pretty easy. You simply just hike the road on the left side of the Sarca river from Arco towards the village of Cengia until you come to a small track leading left uphill. You should just look for the planks of wood. Follow the trail and Caldo Inverno will be one of the first routes you will find. The 1st pitch of Caldo Inverno in Arco is a pretty crimpy slab climb with some awkward moves. The pitch ends near a tree that you can belay from. The 2nd pitch offers this really fun corner on good climbing holds. It is a bit tricky to find the right way up the first couple of moves, but once that is done, the rest is pretty straight forward. And the corner actually turns into a short chimney at the very end. The 3rd pitch is super easy! Here you have to rock climb a few boulders, and then walk up a trail. And if you want to take a rest, this is a really great spot! From the 4th pitch Caldo Inverno in Arco intensifies! The 4th pitch follows a dihedral onto a slab and is super fun! There are pretty long between some of the holds, so you have to power through. But this just fine, because all of the hand holds are jugs! The 5th pitch starts with a short traverse onto big and good holds. And continuous straight up through a corner that makes out the short 6th pitch! The 7th and final pitch is the crux pitch! It starts with a traverse until you reach a small overhang that you need to climb. Finding the right foot holds is a bit tricky and climbing this sequence is a bit strenuous. Once the overhang is climbed the fun doesn’t stop there. The pitch continues left on a long traverse on good holds, but keeping the balance can be tough! In terms of gear we brought 12 quick draws and our standard sport climbing multi-pitch anchor gear. So, three screwgate carabiners, a couple of long slings, HMS carabiner and belay device. And there is absolutely no need to bring any traditional gear at all. Caldo Inverno is pretty tigthly bolted and all stances have two bolts or more. When you are ready to descent you just top out and follow the red band to the right along the exposed trail. There is absolutely no reason to abseil, and the hike back down is actually really great.
