This discussion explores the critical role the media plays in promoting accountability in social programs and ensuring the inclusion of people with disabilities in these initiatives. Ms Justina Asishana is an award-winning Data/Investigative Journalist. She's passionate about reporting health, human interest issues, transparency, and accountability in governance. She is also very active in advocacy and volunteering. She has done several investigative reporting for her media outfit, The Nation Newspaper. As its Niger State Correspondent, she clinically deploys various ways of telling gender-balanced, human interest and investigative stories using solutions lens with an infusion of data in her reportage. She is equally affiliated with the International Center for Investigative Reporting (ICIR), Premium Times Center for Investigative Journalism (PTCIJ), Wole Soyinka Center for Investigative Journalism (WSCIJ) as well as the Washington DC-based International Center for Journalism (ICFJ) where she has enjoyed several fellowships. She is a 2018 and 2020 ICFJ Safety Fellow, and an Alumnus of the School of Media and Communication Pan-Atlantic University, a Fellow of the African Science Literacy Network and a Fellow of the Report Women Network. She's one of pioneer Dubawa Fellows; a fact-checking outlet combating misinformation in Nigeria. She was the '2019 ONE Champion' in Niger state and the 2021 Africa Media Development Foundation (AMDF) Journalist of the Year, the NMMA Culture and Tradition Journalist of the year 2023, the IJNET Journalist of the Month in May 2021, runner-up of the Nigeria Media Merit Awards (NMMA), Features Writer cum Business Journalist of the Year 2021.
